The car is equipped with many sensors. These sensors ensure that driving becomes increasingly safer, more efficient and more comfortable. The different sensors all have their own task and measure, for example, a specific performance of a part. This performance or information is constantly passed on by the sensors to the car's on-board computer. For example, many technical gadgets that are incorporated in the car work in this way, but safety systems such as ABS are also controlled.
Sensors are electronic components and are therefore sensitive to malfunctions. Has a sensor in your car broken? Then make sure to replace it as soon as possible, most sensors measure important information that is necessary for safe driving.
Types of car sensors
Your car has many different sensors. These sensors have many different tasks. We will briefly explain a number of important variants. For more information about a specific sensor, you can also navigate to that category.
Crankshaft sensor: The crankshaft sensor determines the speed and position of the crankshaft, this signal is passed on to the engine control so that the engine can run properly and smoothly.
Camshaft sensor: The camshaft sensor is mounted on the cylinder head of the engine and ensures that the ignition can take place at the right time. This is measured by the position of the camshaft.
Coolant sensor: This sensor measures the temperature of the coolant, on the basis of this it can be determined how much fuel must be transported to the engine. A cold start requires more fuel than when the engine has already warmed up.
Speed sensor: A speed sensor measures the speed of the car and transmits it to the speedometer. This way you can see the current speed in the dashboard.
ABS sensors: Every car has an ABS system to ensure that the wheels do not lock during an emergency braking. The ABS sensors are mounted on the wheels and are very important for the proper functioning of the ABS system.
Oil pressure sensor: The oil pressure sensor is an important sensor. This measures the oil pressure and ensures that exactly enough engine oil is always transported to the engine. If too little oil was delivered to the engine, the parts would not be cooled or lubricated enough. This could subsequently cause serious engine damage.
In addition to these sensors, you will find much more in our wide range. For a detailed description, we refer you to the different categories.
