The oil pump gasket is a vital component for circulating oil throughout the engine. The gasket prevents engine oil from leaking from the pump through the connections. The oil pump must be properly sealed to build up pressure. The engine oil is pumped under pressure to the various engine components. Insufficient oil or oil not reaching the components will lead to serious engine damage because the parts are not lubricated.
Oil pump gasket leaks
The oil pump gasket prevents engine oil from leaking out of the pump. Is the gasket worn? Then the oil leaks from the pump through the connections. The oil pump gasket dries out over time and becomes brittle, causing the gasket to tear. Engine oil seeps out through the torn gasket. Do you notice oil leaking? Then check the seal of the oil pump. Is the oil light on the dashboard on? This can also be a sign of a faulty oil pump gasket. The light will come on when the oil pressure or oil level is too low.
Replacing the oil pump gasket
Is the oil pump gasket leaking? Then replace the part. You will also need a new seal if you are going to replace the oil pump, although replacing the pump is less common.
Replacing the oil pump gasket is done as follows:
1. Before you start replacing the oil pump gasket, first drain the engine oil.
2. Then remove the sump; the oil pump is located inside.
3. Remove the oil pump by unscrewing it.
4. Remove the seal from the pump and don't forget to clean the remains.
5. Place the new gasket on the oil pump and screw it back into place.
6. Before replacing the sump, it is recommended to clean it and use a new sump gasket.
7. After all parts are remounted, refill the engine oil.
