Having a good view while driving is very important. Dirty windows won?t do any good, this is why it is important to keep the windows clean, especially the front and rear windows. You can keep your windows clean with the help of your wiper blades and the right screen wash.
Which screen wash
There are two types of screen wash, specific summer and winter variants. Windscreen washer fluid for the winter is often called anti-freeze screen wash (not to be confused with anti-freeze or coolant). Anti-freeze screen wash ensures that you can keep cleaning the windows even at temperatures as low as -60 degrees Celsius. Check the label on the product to see until what temperature the screen wash keeps doing its job. Screen wash with anti-freeze properties is windscreen washer fluid that cannot freeze over. If the temperature does reach a point where the screen wash freezes, it will no longer be sprayable and hoses may tear or break. The winter variant is often recognisable by its blue colour.
The summer version lacks anti-freeze properties and is therefore not suitable for use during the winter. The summer, also called standard variant, can often be recognized by a yellow or pink colour. Do you still have normal windscreen wash in your car when the temperature goes down and chances are that it might freeze? Then make sure to finish it and fill up on anti-freeze screen wash. Do not forget to also spray a couple of times to make sure that the hoses are also cleared of summer screen wash. You can, of course, use anti-freeze windscreen washer fluid in the summer. The difference is that the summer version contains a solvent that removes resin and dead insects better.
Check screen wash
It is important to occasionally check how much windscreen washer fluid is still in the windscreen washer reservoir. This is to prevent that you run out. Often you can see on the outside of the reservoir how much is still in the reservoir. The reservoirs are often semi-transparent. If the reservoir is almost empty, fill it up.
Top up screen wash
First and foremost, make sure you have appropriate screen wash and don?t try to substitute it for something like washing up liquid. Washing up liquid may contain salt and can damage your car. If you have found the correct screen wash, adding it is very easy. Anyone can do this themselves. The location of the screen wash reservoir can differ per car. You can usually recognize this by the coloured cap with a logo with a ?windscreen? on it. Filling screen wash can be done using a few simple steps:
- Open the bonnet and fix it securely;
- Search for the coloured cap with the logo of the ?windscreen?;
- Fill up the reservoir with screen wash;
- Screw the cap back on the reservoir;
To make filling up with screen wash easier, you can also use a funnel. Not only more easily, it significantly prevents spilling.
