The petrol or diesel returning from the cylinder head is very hot and must be cooled before it returns to the fuel tank. From the tank, the cooled petrol or diesel then flows back to the engine. The fuel cooler consists of pipes through which the fuel flows. As it flows through the pipes, the liquid is cooled by the air.
